Acoustic panels for schools
Poor acoustics make it hard for pupils to hear their teacher. We treat classrooms, halls, sports halls and dining spaces so speech is clear and rooms are calmer, working to the acoustic targets set for the building.
The problem
Hard walls, floors and ceilings reflect sound. In a classroom that means speech blurs; in a hall or sports hall it means noise builds and lessons become tiring. Good acoustics create focused, inclusive classrooms.
BB93 and the design targets
Building Bulletin 93 (BB93), "Acoustic design of schools: performance standards", sets targets for background noise, sound insulation and reverberation in schools, including sports halls.
On new schools and major refurbishments, the acoustic consultant's report usually sets the target for each room. We work to that report: we recommend the product, quantity and placement to suit the target.
What usually works
-
Classrooms
Eco-PET panels on walls, pinnable so they double as display boards, and acoustic ceiling tiles overhead.
-
Halls and theatres
Timber slat or perforated panels on walls, and rafts (panels hung from the ceiling) at high level.
-
Sports halls
Durable wall panels at high level. Tell us about your hall and the sports played in it, and we will recommend the treatment.
-
Dining halls and corridors
Ceiling slats, ceiling tiles or wall panels where many people gather.
Projects
Some of these projects were delivered by our sister company, Express Group, as part of wider packages. Each project says which.

Hall too loud? Classroom hard to teach in?
Send the floor plan and a few photos, or the acoustic consultant's report. We will recommend the treatment and price it.
Questions about schools
Can you help us meet BB93?
We recommend and install treatment to meet the targets set for each room, usually in the acoustic consultant's report.
Can panels be fitted during term time?
Panels can be fitted to existing walls and ceilings with minimal disruption.
Are the panels safe for schools?
Where a product has a data sheet, its reaction-to-fire class is on it, and we send the data sheet with our recommendation. For the other products, ask us for the manufacturer's data.
Can pupils' work be pinned to the panels?
Yes, Eco-PET panels are pinnable.
